The Full form of CIRT

The full form of CIRT is the Central Institute of Road Transport. It is a government institute that is managed by the Ministry of Shipping and Transport in collaboration with the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings or ASTRU. This agency is the only one in India which provides a platform for those who wish to learn more and perform research on road-based transportation. They also help in guidance and consulting in the field for the Government of India. Located in Maharashtra on the Pune-Nashik highway, the institute was founded back in 1967 with the goal to improve the public transportation systems functioning in India via the help of better management systems.

CIRT also offers certain services to the general public such as guidance for better road transport, and even undertakes several projects which are facilitated by its laboratories. It has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories or NABL. It is a government-approved center for testing spare parts and certifying them with quality checks. The ASTRU combined with several Government Councilors oversees the processing and functioning of the institute to ensure that it can provide the services it does at optimum performance.

It has a specific mandate which was introduced during its establishment. This includes to introduce modern management practices in the field of public transportation and to provide a platform for higher research in the field of transport.
