The Full Form of MMR

The full form of MMR is the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella. It is a vaccine that protects children from the three most severe diseases. It is given as double series shots by the age of 7 years old. However, if an adult has not been vaccinated, it is advised to get vaccinated as well.

Measles virus causes cough, skin rashes, runny nose and eye irritation along with fever. The disease can evolve serious conditions like pneumonia, ear infections, brain damage, seizures or death. Mumps has symptoms like fever, swollen glands and headache, which later develop into hearing loss, swelling of ovaries or testicles. Mumps can also cause breathing issues or meningitis which can be fatal if not properly treated. Rubella shows symptoms of measles, therefore, also known as German measles. The similarity in symptoms includes fever, skin rash, and joint pain. Rubella disease during pregnancy can result in birth defects or miscarriage.

There may be notable side effects after being injected with the vaccine, but it is better than being infected with the viruses of measles, mumps or rubella. The vaccines should only be postponed or avoided if the individual suffers from any of the reasons stated below.
